Politics #1

God did not set up the world to function under a global secular government. First of all, He is God and is the ultimate Ruler. Secondly, we see that God confuses the people's languages at the Tower of Babel and disperses them across the earth. The result of this was different cultures, ideas, and ways of living. To have a global secular government would completely counteract this concept God set in place.

Additionally, a global secular government completely ignores the fact that humans are fallen creatures, and that our selfish nature usually wins out. We would have to completely trust this global secular government, and ignore the fact that the leaders may indeed be corrupt and twist the system for their benefit. Our book said it best: "We know that power tends to corrupt, so a government that disperses power is better than one that gathers power into the hands of a few" (Noebel 318). Indeed, the select group of people running the government would tend toward favoritism of a particular group of people, therefore undermining the goal of equality that a global secular government would strive for. True morality would never be attained because the government does not recognize God's existence or sovereignty, and it would ultimately end in chaos.

A global secular government would also cause the diverse ways of living to die out. For instance, each culture has an identity and a certain way they live. These would eventually be lost in a global government, and because there would be no differing viewpoints, the government would cease to grow. Here's another point: a Utopia society is never really a Utopia at all. In a "Utopia" a yard keeper would be paid the same wage as a lawyer. Where is the fairness in this? No, a global secular government would ultimately implode.
