Politics #2 Q. 1

Yes, the ability of a woman to control her own body is critical for civil rights. HOWEVER, when a woman is pregnant, she is now responsible for two human lives, not just hers. It is no longer soely her body, because another human being is living inside of her, who, by the way has the same exact right to life as she does. Yes, we all believe that murdering is wrong. Therefore, a mother does not have the right to decide whether or not her baby should live. (There are of course special circumstance in which giving birth may cause both mother and baby to die, in which case the mother must be saved). In fact, a mother's desire to rid herself of her baby is merely selfish, opting for convenience rather than to raise her child or give him/her up for adoption.

It really boils down to if people believe that a fetus is a person, which obviously many must not because millions of babies are denied their right to life every year that everyone else enjoys. Indeed it is spelled out in our very own Constitution, that all humans have "a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Fortunately, it can be proved that fetuses are humans very rationally. First, if people argue a fetus is not a person because of its size, does that mean bigger people are more human than smaller people? No. If it is because of location does being up in my room make me any more of a person than being down in my kitchen? No. If it is a matter of development or dependency does that make a mentally retarded person or someone dependent upon a respirator any less of a person? NO. End of discussion. These variables do not play a matter. Add that to the fact that God "knit us together in our mother's womb" and that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." Also, God says that HE is in charge of death, life and judgement. Our ways are not His ways. Our thoughts are not His thoughts. His ways are much greater than ours. It's not our God-given right to abort a child.
Therefore, contraception and sterilization have nothing to do with this argument. To protect the life of an unborn child is the government's duty; contraceptives and sterilization are non-issues in the face of preventing a child's murder.
